Project Overview

Located in the recreational precinct of Warragul, some one and a half hours north of Melbourne, this 750m2 skate park has been rated in the top 20 state parks in Australia, and attracts enthusiasts from all around because of its mixture of features which offer something for everyone.

Designed to accommodate skateboarders, rollerbladers and BMX stunt bike riders, the highest element - the vertical wall - stands 2.4m above the base slab. The bowl element has a maximum height of 2.25m and consists of three different floor levels and radii, with a smooth transition between each of them. A feature in the centre of the bowl is a hand-formed knoll.

According to SLAM magazine, the Warragul Skate Park is an outdoor concrete skate jungle that has it all: tranny, bowls and blocks. One half of the park consists of more your rail, curb, bank and fun-box set-up for the wizards while the other section comprises some smooth bowls with a spine, channels, corners and extensions for carve riders'.

The elements were constructed using a low slump (20-mm), 32-MPa concrete which is generally 150-mm-thick and reinforced with an F82 reinforcement from MBT was used for the vertical curve transitions to improve the abrasion resistance of these surfaces. Judges Comments

The sophisticated moulding of forms and the control of scale in this design have avoided the possible conflict between the facility and its setting, allowing it to exist comfortably with its surrounding landscape.

The project reveals a strength of intention with its clean detailing and provides the maximum variety of user experiences.
